In January of 1917, British intelligence intercepts the Zimmermann Telegram. The Telegram proposed Mexico and Germany to form an alliance if the U.S. entered World War I against Germany.

The Zimmermann Telegram would eventually force Wilson to sign a declaration of war against the Alliances (Germany, Italy, and Austria-Hungary)
