On September 8, 1974, Gerald Ford granted a full and unconditional pardon to Richard Nixon, his predecessor, for any crimes that he might have committed against the United States as president. This pardon ended the issue of dealing with the Watergate scandal for Gerald Ford and was done because Ford felt he could not do his job as president while dealing with such an issue.
