The election of 1972 was between Richard Nixon and George McGovern. The election was one of the most landslide elections ever with George McGovern only getting 17 electoral votes. It is said that some relate this to McGovern running on at the time somewhat extreme principles showing that the American people did not want to take the risk of something new.
