In order to escape religious and social discrimination due to practices that went against societal norms, the Mormons decided to move west into what would become Utah. Since the founder, Joseph Smith, had been murdered, a man named Bringham Young took up the role of leader and led the Mormons into the west to establish their own churches and society.
