Gwendolyn Brooks becomes the first Black person to be named U.S poet Laureate. She also wins a Pulitzer Price for “Annie Allen”. In her works, she describes ordinary Black people in innovative verses, often talking about the Bronzeville neighborhood in Chicago where she grew up.
