During the 1976 election, Jimmy Carter ran as a democrat on the promise that his cabinet will not be corrupt like Nixon’s administration. Carter one by a slim majority and was inaugurated January 20th, 1977. This event is important because Jimmy Carter continued to seek détente with the Soviet Union.
