Descrição:

The Voting Rights Act of 1965, signed into law by President Lyndon B. Johnson, authorized black citizens to registrate to vote. Literacy tests and other voter registration tests were suspended. Within four years, voter registration in the South had doubled.
Many Whites who have fought against the Act now had to pay the price: due to the influence of Black voters, they were not (re-)elected.
The Voting Rights Act is considered one of the most far-reaching pieces of civil rights legislation in U.S. history.
