Having defeated the peasant's crusade, Kilij Arslan felt free to fight the Danishmends in the east. As a result, the main crusading army made preparation to attack Nicaea unharmed.
Alexios would not attack himself so had Boutoumites with 2000 troops go on his behalf. Good military leadership from Godfrey and Bohemond and siege engines repulsed any threat. Alexios sent in boats to attack via the lake and the Turks broke. Sued for peace 18th june 1097. Alexios distributed money and gifts and got Nicaea back.
