Descrição:

Background- It was becoming ever apparent that Malcolm X aligned his morals less with the Nation of Islam as new developments in the Civil Rights Movement presented themselves. Following the assassination of President Ngo Dinh Diem and his brother during the Vietnam War, Elijah Muhammad the leader of the Nation of Islam informed members to decline to speak in regards to the matter. X was questioned about the assassination and said that the President "never foresaw that the chickens would come home to roost so soon." Soon after, X was silenced by Elijah Muhammad for ninety days due to speaking on the matter.

Conclusion- Rather than a win, this proved to be a loss for the Nation of Islam. This silencing of X brought a realization that he no longer felt the need to associate himself with the Nation of Islam as their relationship was strained and no longer consensual. X continued to hear stories and harassment from members of the Nation about his betrayal and eventually decided that the only logical course of action was for him to split from the Nation of Islam.
