Battle of Blanco Canyon is the midpoint of Mackenzie's campaign against the Comanche bands in the west. Mackenzie gathered eight companies of the Fourth United States Cavalry, two companies of the Eleventh Infantry, and a group of twenty Tonkawa scouts and set out on October 3rd in hope of finding the Quahadi village. On October 9th they reached Blanco Canyon, and they set up camp there, but at night Quanah Parker and a Comanche force rode through their camp making them lose 60 horses. They then proceeded to chase after them eventually catching up to the Comanche but being stopped due to incredibly bad weather. On October 15th they descended down the wall of Blanco Canyon and while descending they the canyon there was two Commanche scouts which they fought and killed, though Mackenzie and another soldier were wounded. After that, Mackenzie gave leadership of the group to Capt. Clarence Mauck, but as the weather worsened they eventually had to go back to civilization.
