Descrição:

Towards the end of the 1800s black people continued to face discrimination in Canada at since the 1800s. Black people, due to their skin color, where denied many of the job oppurtunites that the white people had. The black kids that had gone to school where all deliberately separated into different groups due to their skin color. They were often denied the rights to eat at some restaurants and were forced to sit in different places in theatres and weren’t allowed to live in certain neighbourhoods. They could not join any of the clubs or organizations formed by white men. During the end of the 1800s the government owned the ICR or the Intercolonial railway. They hired many black men as porters or servants, often working for the first-class passengers. They were also paid lower in wages that that of the white employees and where forced to work longer hours than that of the white employees. Each night, the porters were only allowed three hours of sleep and were treated badly buy most of the passengers and also by the government. An example is during 1898. There was a slowdown in railway business. The company decided to fire the black servants and workers despite the fact that the white workers were paid more.
