The Bolsheviks were one of two factions that emerged when the Russian Socialist Party split. When the group split, they were the majority. They considered themselves the representatives of the working class. The Bolsheviks were headed by Lenin. They were considered the more radical of the two groups. The Bolsheviks took over the government after the revolution of 1917. They became known as the Communist Party afterward.
