As opposed to the norm, Constantine chose to not be baptized until his deathbed. He claimed this was a way around polluting his soul from sin and ensuring he go to heaven. However, this is disputed to this day with many people believing he was motivated by political reasons instead. Evidence shows it would have been in his best interest politically to avoid alienating any group of people. By being baptized earlier, he would have aleinated the pagans and vice versa.
