March 12th (February 28th) the Duma, a representative committee previously abolished by the czar, set up a provisional government in place of the monarchy. This government was led by Aleksandr Kerenesky, who was in power until October of 1917. The forming of this government had Czar Nicholas II abdicate the throne, thus ending Romanov rule in Russia.
