Lynn was a dramaturg for Rent. She was hired by the New York Theatre Workshop to assist Jonathan Larson in clarifying points in the script that weren't clear. She stated that she collaborated with Larson on 9% of the lyrics and 48% of the libretto. She thought she deserved a co author status for this. Thomson could not recall certain lyrics she wrote, and lost the court case.
