1 jan 1315 ano - The Great Famine of 1315
Descrição:
Aside from great plagues and epidemics, one of the most devastating events in medieval times was the great famine.
This was a time in Europe when two consecutive farming seasons went horribly wrong. It all started in the spring of 1315 when bad weather made it exceedingly difficult to nurture crops and the harvesting season of that year certainly reflected that. Crops failed and animals starved, diseases spread through cattle and sheep, food prices skyrocketed and many people, not wealthy enough to afford the food, starved.
It is estimated that roughly one million people died that year due to the poor crops and it took Europe five years to recover from the devastating event.
