1 dez 1974 ano - Programmable Sound Generator

Descrição:

The Programmable Sound Generator, or PSG, was a sound chip that was used to generate audio signals that form sound waves. This method of sound synthesis varied from the previous method of FM Synthesis as the sound produced by the chip is already programmed into it and does not need to be processed by oscillators like the Moog Synthesizer required. PSGs were commonly seen in arcade machines, game consoles, and the early home computer during the 80s and 90s. The first PSG was released by General Instrument in 1978, but this design was purchased by one of the biggest names in the early electronic instrument game, Yamaha. Yamaha would develop their own PSG and use it to construct their own version of the synthesizer which they called the Yamaha DX7. This quickly became popular due to its more harsh electronic sound, which set it apart from the warmer sounds produced by synthesizers without chips.
