United States v. Paramount Pictures Inc. was decided by the Supreme Court. Film studios can no longer own their own theater chains as it is seen as monopolistic and anti-competitive.

It decreed that all movie studios were forbidden from owning movie theaters. Paramount and many other studios had to split their theater divisions from them. From that came the United Paramount Theaters. Paramount Pictures Inc. then became the Paramount Pictures Corporation.
