4 jan 2016 ano - Longest Globally Recorded Coral Bleaching Event (Life on Water)

Descrição:

At the start of 2014, rising sea temperatures and long stretches of heat caused a global phenomenon which, despite a surprising occurrence, was perfectly normal at the time. However, the mass bleaching went global, unrelentingly pounding the coral reefs of the world to their deathbeds. By 2016, this event was considered the longest ever coral bleaching to date. Over 93% of the Great Barrier Reef had been affected, and almost a quarter of the reef had been slaughtered by this man-made plague. By 2017, the bleaching had slowed down significantly, but experts still fear of a second and more powerful occurrence, which could rid the world of these beautiful ecosystems forever.
