From the 1550s-1650s, Spain went through a period of time called the Golden Age in the arts. The new time of art and literature was because the new incoming wealth allowed monarchs and nobles to become patrons of artists. Painters like El Greco and Velasquez showed the age through their great works. Writers like Cervantes also were the prime people during the Golden Age.
