It was the largest concentration of troops in any Civil War battle, lowering Union morale while boosting Confederate morale. It was fought between Union commander, Ambrose Burnside's 120,000 troop army, and Robert E. Lee's 80,000 troop army at Fredericksburg, Virginia. There were major casualties, mainly Union, and it was a Confederate victory.
