Descrição:
The Emancipation Proclamation was a document written during Abraham Lincoln’s presidency that he wrote in the matter of preserving the Union rather than the actual concern of abolishing slavery. Lincoln knew Northern citizens would not support anti-slavery as a war strategy, but by 1862 he knew it was morally correct and a war aim that most would support as more slaves escaped from the South. He issued the Proclamation on and on January 1, 1863, it went into effect that all states still in rebellion on that day would be “then, thenceforth, and forever free”. This led to the 13th amendment being ratified, as it was the first big step towards slaves becoming free.
