Led by William of Orange (former friend of Charles V though a Protestant). Agreement reunited Seventeen Provinces and defended religious freedom. Philip II opposed and called for his death. William's son, Maurice, took his place and defeated Spanish troops sent by Philip II. Truce eventually signed in 1607.
