Ashurbanipal I was considered as the last great ruler of the Assyrians. He was famous for the library he constructed in Nineveh. It held his collection of clay tablets from all over Mesopotamia. The death of Ashurbanipal in 627 bce led to a civil war among the empire’s leaders who wanted to succeed him.
