the history of Washington includes thousands of years of native American inhabitance. But, it wasn't until 1775 when European explores discovered the Washington territory. By 1805, Thomas Jefferson won approval from congress to send a expert team of explores (including Lewis and Clark) to find a possible water way west to the Pacific ocean after about 2 years of exploration Lewis and Clark believed that they have reached the pacific ocean. Then in 1846 the state of Oregon took the territory of Washington for there gain. In 1851-1852 the people of Washington sent a letter to Congress requesting to split the Oregon Territory Into two separate territories; one north of the Columbia River and one south of it.
