1 maio 2004 ano - Eastern Enlargement
Descrição:
Czech Republic, Cyprus, Estonia, Latvia, Lithuania, Hungary, Malta, Poland, Slovenia and Slovakia join
This marked a significant moment in European Political history, finally unifying eastern and western Europe - ending what the big three had done at Yalta 60 years ago
The driver for this to happen was to finally establish peace, stability and economic prosperity between the east and the west.
The Iron Curtain had finally fallen
The EU promoted democracy, helped liberalise economic and agricultural sectors, and eliminate any human rights violations they had seen develop in these countries that were still recovering from being under Soviet control for long.
For the EU this was a massive opportunity to bring Europe further together, by increasing member states, culture got richer. It boosted the EU's economy as well as every country that joined. It was a win-win situation for both parties
