The first United Nations Emergency Force was established by the General Assembly when they meet on the Suez Canal Crisis for their First Emergency Special Session. The force was done to create supervision and security in the termination of hostilities.This includes the withdrawal of the armed forces in France, Israel and the United Kingdom from Egyptian territory. After withdrawal, to has served as a buffer between the Egyptian and Israeli forces.

It lasted from November 1956, to June 1967

"Photographic reproduction of shoulder patch to be worn by members of UNEF. An armband will be worn and an identification card will be carried by all UNEF personnel."
