Marking the 10th anniversary of the Stonewall Riots, the first National March on Washington for Lesbian and Gay Rights takes place, drawing an estimated 75,000 to 125,000 individuals marching for LGBT rights. Several subsequent marches occurred over the next 20 years, each much larger and more diverse than the previous one.
This expanded civil rights as the voice of the LGBT community was heard by those in power, which helped inform legislation on the topic of homosexuality,
