27 set 1821 ano - Mexico Becomes
At the same time as Central America was becoming independent, peoples living in Mexico had a more violent time fighting for their seperation. Since 1810, insurgent groups had risen throughout the country and fought a number battles with royalists for over a decade. It was finally in September 1821 that representatives of the Spanish Crown signed a treaty that declared Mexico as an independent nation.
Mexico at this time however, was far larger than it's modern day borders. In the north, the boundaries of the Mexican Empire stretched into North America and bordered the United States to the east - this land was divided into three territories: Alta California, Nuevo Mexico, and Texas, giving the Mexican Empire a total of 7.6 thousand sq miles.
