On 19 August 1955 the Ukase of the Presidium of the Supreme Soviet of the USSR approved the "Regulation on the State flag of the USSR". The Regulation established for the first time the official proportions of the sickle, hammer and star on the Flag of the Soviet Union.

19 августа 1955 года Указом Президиума Верховного Совета СССР было утверждено «Положение о Государственном флаге СССР». Положение впервые установило официальные пропорции серпа, молота и звезды на флаге Советского Союза.
