In the 1980s the AIDS epidemic was in full swing without much thought towards its effects on humanity. By the 1990s people began to take notice. The XI AIDS conference changed the way people thought about the disease not just in Canada but around the world. The painting by Joe Average has now become an image associated with Canada and the AIDS epidemic.
