Christopher Columbus was a Spanish explorer who is given credit for discovering America. He was given permission by the queen and king of Spain to sail and find a shortcut to get to India- a place full of spices and materials that Spain desired. He set sail on August 13, 1492. Instead of Asia, he ran into the area we now call the Caribbean.
