For many years, the Bible Students, that would eventually become Jehovah's Witnesses, had discovered in the Scriptures a prophecy regarding the year 1914. Although not aware of the details at the time, it eventually became clear that following the October of 1914 Jehovah the true God crowned his son Jesus Christ - now with his original name Michael - as the King of God's Kingdom.

Michael's first act as the new King was clearing the Heavens of Satan and his spirit followers, known as demons. Humans could not view the events that transpired in this war of Heaven, however the result of such a battle was one that would affect them. Satan and his demons fought Michael and the angels but the outcome had already been set. The wicked beings were eventually cast out of the Kingdom of God and confined to the vicinity of the Earth. Still existing in their "spirit forms", Satan and the demons did not become visible or tangible to humans but did retain the ability to greatly influence the thoughts and actions of those susceptible.

Despite this, these wicked forces were aware that their expulsion from Heaven and the establishing of God's Kingdom meant that both themselves and humanity were living in the "Last Days" - a period of time that would ultimately culminate in the end of Satan's 6000-year reign over the Earth. In the meantime, wars, famines, and earthquakes would increase over the next century on an unprecedented scale all while Jehovah's true worshipers would become more organized and grow throughout the world.
