A year after "Dialogue Concerning the Two Chief World Systems" Galileo is sentenced by the Inquisition to imprisonment, commuted to house arrest, for vehement suspicion of heresy in violating the 1616 injunction.

About a ball falling from the mast of a ship, in his dialogue, the interlocutor exclaims: come on, you didn't do this experiment once, and he replies: you're right, I don't have to.

Admiration for Copernicus for forcing himself violently against the senses.

Motion is neither violent nor teleological - not passionate - but a primitive fact of existence, needing no more explanation than rest - indeed rest and motion are only relative terms, signifying perspective and not reality.

His use of the telescope brought up for the first time questions of instruments in knowledge, the validity of abnormal perception (at the same time, it seems that a trust in the faculties of healthy and normal humans is one answer to the sceptics, with the beginnings of a pathological approach to abnormal states of consciousness. From this come some of Russell's arguments against the mystical experience. And yet, with the telescope, one may ask if any unnatural perception is pathological, which complicates matters.
