This event occurred during the reign of emperor Nero. It wasn't a normal fire as the flames had raged for 6 days before being under control. It caused two thirds of Rome to be destroyed. It’s important because it portrays the fact that despite how powerful an empire is, it will always have a weakness that one will bring it down.
