The British North America act, after being passed by British Parliament and given royal assent, joined the three provinces of Nova Scotia, New Brunswick, and Prince Edward Island into one, the Dominion Of Canada, and divided the province of Canada into Quebec and Ontario.

This act also began a newer government system in Canada, one to mirror that of the British.
