KKK leader Clarence Brandenburg was convicted for advocating for violence, which was against the law. It was ruled that the law prohibiting this violated the public's freedom of speech, and tht this sort of speech can only be stopped if it is promoting imminent violence or lawlesness. This case partially overturned Schenk v US.
