5 abr 1856 ano - Booker T Washington
Descrição:
Born a slave in Virginia, he rose to be one of the leading African American leaders of the late 19th century. He founded the Tuskegee Institute in Alabama to educate teachers. Later, he shifted to teaching black students vocational skils to ensure that they could find jobs that could give them economic security. He believed that economic equality would come before social and political equality. One of the biggest challengers to Washington's ideas was W. E. B. Du Bois, who advocated for complete equality.
