On August 6th and 9th, the U.S. dropped two atomic bombs on Japan in Hiroshima and Nagasaki, both in retaliation to Japan bombing Pearl Harbor, and in an attempt to end WWII. Over 200k people died, and many historians believe that this event marked the beginning of the Cold War.
