(Term 4) In 1837, Charles Wheatstone and William Cooke in England and Samuel Morse in the U.S. invented the electric telegraph. This invention provided rapid, long-distance transmission of information over an electric wire.
1. Provided quick long-distance communication that allowed operations such as railroads to operate far more efficiently and safely.
2. Led to even quicker communication methods that allow us to connect with family and share kindness with others.
3. Conserved resources and time that would normally be spent traveling to speak in person or sending a messenger. With the electric telegraph, messages could be sent in an instant without the need for travel.
