1 jan 1000 ano - Earliest distinct Native American cultures in Iowa

Descrição:

Earliest distinct Native American cultures identified by archaeologists date to 1000 c.e.:

The earliest distinct societies that are known, researchers identify based on their pottery styles, dwelling types, settlement patterns, linguistic features, and the oral histories passed on through their descendants. The four major societies that researchers identify in Iowa from the start of the 2nd millennium c.e. are Glenwood, Mill Creek, Great Oasis, and Oneota. Only the descendants of the Great Oasis and Oneota are known. Southeast Iowa is where the Oneota people lived. The Oneota then, are the very first distinct culture that this place was home to, at least 4,000 years after people first came here. Several groups from in and around the Mississippi valley consider them to be their ancestors, including the Ioway.
