The high tide of German advance came to an end in 1942. The big reason behind this was because the U.S. joined the war, and the Soviet Union won a battle at Stalingrad. Two years later, on June 6, 1944, a D-Day was held. On this day, the U.S., Canadian, and British allies secured beachheads on Normandy’s coast. The goal behind the D-day was to liberate France. By the end of August of the same year, Paris was liberated. And by the end of September, the Allies were able to cross the German border and pushed into Berlin. The Germans, actually, counterattacked in Belgium in December during the Battle of the Bulge. After this setback, the American troops reorganized and resumed their advance to bring down the Germans. In summary, the Americans and the allies fighting Germany shows how the nations wanted to come together to fight their common enemy.
