1 dez 1620 ano - Plymouth and Massachusetts Bay Colony

Descrição:

Unlike the Jamestown settlement, the Plymouth and Massachusetts Bay colonies were not established for economic motives, but for religious ones. Plymouth and Massachusetts Bay were founded by English Protestants who had broken away from the Anglican Church because they wanted a more radical separation from the Catholic Church. The King viewed these protestants as a threat to his authority and wanted them persecuted;hence, why they traveled to the new world in search for religious freedom. The colony of Plymouth was established by pilgrims who seeked a haven for their religion, once they found that Holland was not a good one. The Massachusetts Bay Colony was founded by more moderate dissenters, the Puritans, who also seeked religious freedom in which they founded the Massachusetts shores. The establishment of both colonies demonstrates how there were religious motives, outside the spread of Christianity, that brought Europeans to the Americas. Migration by religious groups represents how there will be a variety of religions once the 13 colonies become a union that will live in toleration.
