15 ago 1934 ano - Opponents of New Deal: American Liberty League

Descrição:

Several different types of opponents for the new deal emerged as a result of FDR’s pushing for the different programs. One of these opponents were the liberal critics. The socialist and extreme liberals of the Democratic party criticized the new Deal for being too focused on business and not on those unemployed and the working poor. Besides these, there were also the conservative critics. The conservative critics attacked relief programs like the WPA and the labor laws like the Wagner act for being too socialist and even communist. Business leaders opposed the New Deal because of its increasing regulations, its pro-union stance, and its financing government programs with borrowed money. Conservative democrats, along with the leading republicans, formed an anti-deal organization called the American Liberty League in 1934. The league vowed to stop the New Deal from subverting the economy and politics. All in all, those who opposed the new deal did so by forming an organization of their own to counteract the workings of the new deal.
