3 jan 1860 ano - Cattle frontier

Descrição:

The potential of an economy for the west was likely with its massive grasslands. This was realized by farmers after the civil war. Before, cattles were raised in Texas by mexicans. By 1860, herds of 5 million roamed throughout texas. Cattle business popped off since cattle and grass were free. Construction of railroads in the west after the war opened up eastern markets for the cattle. Cowboys would handle millions of cattle driven up the different western trails and they were mostly mexican or black. The business came to an end in the late 19th century after a drought and blizzard killed 90% of cattle and homesteaders used barbed wire to section off access to open range.
