Anne Hutchinson arrived in Massachusetts Bay and started dissenting from Puritan ministers. She was seen as not only a threat to religious order in Massachusetts, but she was also seen as threat to the traditional gender roles of society. Therefore, she was banished from Massachusetts Bay and she moved with a group of followers to Rhode Island. But more women could not follow her lead because the colonies soon developed more elaborate political and cultural systems that restricted the lives of women.
