Batman: The Animated Series airs. This show was an adaptation of the Batman comics and is considered a defining adaptation of the character. The show was developed by Bruce Timm, who would go on to create further DC Comics cartoons throughout the 90s and early 2000s such as Superman: The Animated Series, Batman Beyond, and Justice League. Timm had a clear vision for the show, taking inspiration from the recent Tim Burton Batman films by aiming for a darker and more cinematic feel to the show compared to the more “Saturday Morning” tone of its contemporaries (Riesman, 2021).
