President Jackson convinced Congress to pass this Bill which gave the president the authority to use the military to enforce U.S. laws. This bill was in response to South Carolina's attempt to invoke the doctrine of nullification and increased Executive power by establishing that a president has the authority to use military force to enforce national laws.
