1 jan 1968 ano - American Indian Movement (AIM)
Descrição:
American Indians were also influenced by the surge of social activism of the 1960s and the Civil Rights movement. They established the American Indian Movement in order to express their own ethnic pride. In 1971, they occupied Alcatraz just outside of San Francisco in order to draw attention to the prejudice that they still faced and injustice. With protests and acts such as the occupation of Alcatraz, AIM forced Americans to focus on the racism faced by Native Americans, which forced courts to be more sensitive to Indian claims and more willing to protect Indian fishing and mineral rights on their reservations.
