Young Puerto Ricans, influenced by the Black Panthers, organized in Chicago for the protection of their interests and rights and their insistence on their ethnic pride. The group quickly spread their movement to New York City. They established medical clinics and fought for bilingual education, and independence for Puerto Rico.
